Synopsis- Nick Gautier is a sixteen year old boy with everyday problems: girls, bullies, and school. And, oh yeah, how could I forget? He is the Malachai, the most powerful evil demon in all the world, created to hate, kill, and have no love. But Nick is different. He was born to a human mother who loves him more than anything else in the world. Nick wants to stop himself from becoming the evil being that e hates more than anything, before he kills everyone he loves.
Before I begin, this is the fifth book in the Chronicles of Nick series, so if you haven't read them I HIGHLY recommend it (The first book in the series is called Infinity). You will fall in love with them.
Phew... Okay... Compose yourself, Regan... You are fully capable of not squealing without abandon while writing this review. *mature hat on*
Okay, first I think I will begin with the writing style. Sherrilyn Kenyon is absolutely ingenious. She is able to tell a story that could be quite dark and twisted in a tone that is upbeat and funny. You never feel like you are reading a helplessly miserable story wrapped with a bow of torture; it's actually quite the opposite. And that plot twist, nearly impossible to pull off.
Now for the characters. Nick is adorable. He is funny and loving and nothing like a Malachai, but everything like a real life sixteen year old. Kody is every bit as awesome. She is a very strong female character, and is very important to the story. Caleb, although not present in much of this book, still seems very important when he is there. And Simi. Simi, Simi, Simi. What can I say? Simi is just as beautifully hilarious as ever. Even the evil demons in this story you can't help but love.
This is just an overall for the characters, everyone's past is beginning to be seriously revealed in this book.
I know this was a fairly short review, but all I have to say is how amazing this book was. I seriously recommend it!!! It was definitely worth the read (and the year long wait).
